I have heard of people who enjoyed Little Women since the time they were little things. They must have been less critical beings that I. I didn't like Little Women the first time I tried to read it.
A few years (I think) later, I tried again (not trying to reread the parts I had read before) and loved it. It's still not my favorite book, but I really, really enjoyed it. It was refreshing to read. I read it for inspiration (writing inspiration) and to clear my mind from any sort of bad thought.
I highly recommend the Seawolf Press 150th anniversary edition. So pretty, and good illustrations from the 1890s. I feel that I can trust nineteenth century illustrations to be more acurate for 19th century books than later illustrations would be...but then, I there are several old books that have illustrations I don't like. I'm not sure whether me or they are the problem, but that's the truth. I know, at least, that Cherubina didn't have red hair...and the illustrations for What Katy Did at School were just ugly.

Just thought I'd mention: of the many, many books I've read written before 1920, I've read at least as many American books as British books.
