Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm by Kate Douglas Wiggin is a very good book for those who love Lucy Maud Montgomery*. I just finished it and enjoyed it very much, though not as much as a Lucy Maud. It does not seem to have as much emotion as Lucy Maud Montgomery could put into a book. It is instructive, lightly written, page-turning, and a little charming. I like Lucy Maud better, but I want to follow all Rebbeca's adventures.

I do not at all hesitate to recommend it, except on one account...that I haven't read all the books. That would have made me hesitant about What Katy Did too, except that What Katy Did is self-sufficient. Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm needs to be followed up, for it ends only to make you want to find out more.

Please give your own opinions of the book, for I look forward to hearing them...but as always, no spoilers!

*Author of Anne of Green Gables, Emily of New Moon, Jane of Lantern Hill, etc.

I later found out that--oh, no!--the only sequels are written later by a different author! Shame on Kate Douglas Wiggin for leaving it so open ended! I don't approve of modern sequels to old books. I don't approve of any sequels being by someone other than the author unless by express permission from the author.

No, I will have to retract that statement about "all Rebecca's adventures". Kate Wiggin did write a book of shortstories about Rebecca taking place at the same time as R of SF , but I'm not really interested in reading it. I might someday, but it doesn't entice me.
